The Short Story: The Gannon softball team earned its second straight split in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader action. The Lady Knights and Fighting Scots each took a game in the twinbill. The Lady Knights hung on for a 7-6 win in game one before falling in the second game, 8-4.

GAME ONE SCORE: Gannon 7, at Edinboro 6

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ |Â GAME ONE- Gannon erased Edinboro's one-run lead in the top of the third. The Fighting Scots registered a pair of errors in the inning, as the Lady Knights scored two runs on the second error in left field. With two outs, junior
Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) pushed the Lady Knights' advantage to 3-1 with an RBI-single through the left side to score sophomore
Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa. / Fox Chapel).
- The Fighting Scots tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning.
- In the top of the sixth, the Lady Knights tallied four runs to move ahead 7-3. With runners at second and third, freshman
Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) hit a two-RBI double to put the Lady Knights in the lead 5-3. An RBI-single by freshman
Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) scored Salerno from third following a ground out to first moved the freshman over to third. Redshirt senior
Katie Dunn (Clarkston, Mich. / Troy) recorded GU's final run of the inning with an RBI-base hit to score Martinez on the play for a 7-3 lead.
- The Fighting Scots' rallying effort came up one-run short as the Lady Knights earned the 7-6 victory. Boro's Heather Tighe drilled a three-RBI home run before senior
Jess Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) entered in relief of sophomore
Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe). Rectenwald struck out the first batter she faced. The senior sealed the 7-6 win as the Fighting Scots' Shelby Proctor popped out to short.

GAME NOTESÂ |Â GAME ONE- Rectenwald, Salerno and Sahughnessy each collected two hits. Salerno drove in two RBIs and scored a run. Shaughnessy also tallied two runs in game one. Â
- Both teams finished the day with double figures at the plate. Gannon recorded a game-best 12 hits with all nine starters picking up at least one hit. Edinboro collected 10 hits. Â
- Gumbita (8-2) earned the win in 6 1/3 innings in the circle, striking out three batters. She allowed six earned runs off 10 hits.
- Rectenwald entered in the bottom of the seventh to prevent the Fighting Scots' rally. She earned her fourth career save in the effort, striking out one batter.
- Boro recorded two errors, while GU earned one.

HOW IT HAPPENED Â | Â GAME TWO- Gannon took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI-single by Dunn.
- In the top of the third, the Lady Knights tagged on two more runs off consecutive RBI-doubles for a 3-0 lead. Moran crossed home for the second time in the game on an RBI-double by Bates. Dunn followed with another RBI-double to score Bates.
- Edinboro managed to get on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI-single. The Fighting Scots moved to within one run of the Lady Knights, 3-2, on Tighe's second RBI-base hit of the game.
- The Fighting Scots exploded for six runs in the bottom of the six for an 8-3 advantage. Four of the six runs came off consecutive two-RBI doubles.
- In their last at-bat, the Lady Knights added a run on an RBI single by junior
Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads). The Lady Knights' shot at a rally came to a close on a fly out to left as the Fighting Scots secured an 8-4 victory to split the doubleheader. Â Â

GAME NOTESÂ |Â GAME TWO- Dunn went 3-for-4 in the nightcap, registering two RBIs. Bates and Archambeault also collected two hits. Â
- Bates finished with a double, while Dunn picked a pair of extra-base hits.
- Rectenwald (5-2) earned the loss in a complete-game effort. Among the eight runs scored in the contest, only two were earned. The senior struck out two batters.
- The two teams each posted two errors.
- Each team finished with 10 hits.
