The Short Story: The Gannon softball team swept the action on day two at the National Training Center Monday. The Lady Knights earned a 4-2 win over Cedarville to open the day before sophomore
Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) captured a 2-0 shutout victory over the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. It marked a complete-game shutout win for Gumbita in consecutive starts.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE- Cedarville captured a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. With runners at the corners, the Yellow Jackets managed to score on a Gannon throwing error.
- Gannon tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Following a single down the right-field line by junior
Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) to open the frame, freshman
Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) also reached on a base hit. On a ground out to short by junior
Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads), Bates managed to score to knot the game at one each.
- Leading off the third and fourth innings with a double, the Lady Knights took advantage in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. A leadoff double by sophomore
Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa. / Fox Chapel ) put the Lady Knights in scoring position. Following a sacrifice bunt, Archambeault drove in Moran on an RBI-single to left field.
- With the score tied at 2-2, Moran led off the bottom of the sixth with another double. A single by Martinez put Moran at third before an RBI-single by freshman
Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) gave the Lady Knights a 3-2 lead. A sacrifice fly by junior
Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest) tacked on a run as the Lady Knights pushed their lead to 4-2 in the eventual win.
GAME NOTES | GAME ONE- Moran and Martinez each went 2-for-2. Moran recorded a pair of doubles. Archambeault recorded a pair of RBI in the win.
- Junior
Alison Benz (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Mount Mercy Academy) (1-0) earned the win in 4.0 innings of relief work. Benz allowed one run off four hits.
- The Lady Knights recorded 10 hits on the day with eight batters collecting at least one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO- Following two and half scoreless innings, Gannon put a run on the board in the bottom of the third. With two outs and runners on first and second, Bates doubled down the left-field line to drive in deGuia from third for a 1-0 lead.
- Looking to stretch a double by Stephanie Fultano, the Blue Devils' chance of tying the game was wiped out on a rally throw from Archambeault to deGuia to Bates, who made the tag to preserve the shutout.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Knights added an insurance run to their total. Facing two outs, Martinez drove in Archambeault from third for a Lady Knights' 2-0 lead.
- To close the day, Gumbita struck out three batters in the last three innings to hold on for a 2-0 win. In the Blue Devils' last at-bats, the sophomore collected back-to-back strikeouts before a ground out to third sealed the win.
GAME NOTES | GAME TWO- Gumbita (2-0) earned a consecutive shutout-victory in a complete game. She stuck out five batters, while surrendering six hits.
