HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half consisted of several runs by both teams. Shippensburg initially scored the first five points, before Gannon responded with seven consecutive points.
  • Sophomore Isaiah Eisendorf (Los Angeles, Calif./Springbrook, Md.) recorded Gannon's first field goal 3:28 into the contest, igniting the run. An old-fashion three-point play by senior Tony Boykins (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) tied the game and another Eisendorf basket push the Golden Knights ahead 7-5 at the 15:06 mark.
  • Minutes later, a 13-3 Shippensburg run over the span of 3:57 gave the Raiders their biggest lead of the game at 20-12 with 8:39 left in the first half.
  • Gannon clawed within three points on four different occasions during the final five minutes of the opening session, but a Dustin Sleva three-pointer with seven seconds left push the Raiders into the break with a 35-29 lead.
  • Back-to-back field goals by Eisendorf forged a 42-42 tie with 14:54 remaining. But Shippenburg responded with consecutive three-pointers from Sleva who is listed at 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds.
  • The Ship advantage was still six points at 56-50 with 9:30 left when Gannon made its move.
  • Trailing 60-56, the Golden Knights tied the contest on two free throws by freshman Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn./St. Thomas More) and a lay-up from Boykins with 4:31 to play.
  • Two more free throws from Boykins and an Eisendorf lay-up capped an 8-0 blitz that gave Gannon a 64-60 lead with 3:55 remaining. It represented the Golden Knights' first lead since there was 14:13 left in the first half.
  • Shippensburg's ninth three-pointer of the contest cut the lead back to one point, but senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) drilled a three-pointer from the right corner as the shot clock expired to push the lead back to 67-63 with 2:07 showing on the clock. Toupane hit another tough jumper in the lane during Gannon's next possession for a 69-63 edge.
  • Shippensburg was able to cut the deficit back to three points, but the Raiders were unable to get off a potential game-tying three-pointer in the waning seconds as Gannon celebrated a 70-67 victory.
