THE SHORT STORY: The Gannon men's water polo team went 2-0 in its doubleheader Saturday afternoon in a Collegiate Water Polo Association match (CWPA). The Golden Knights defeated Penn State-Behrend in the first match of the day 17-12, following it up with a 24-13 win over Monmouth (Ill.) at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool.

- Gannon wasted no time getting on the board, as Michael Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) scored within the first 20 seconds of action.
- Penn State Behrend responded with a goal of its own tying the game up at 1-all.
- The Golden Knights would go into the second quarter leading 3-2.
- Gannon limited the Lions to only two goals in the second quarter, leading the Lions 7-4 going into the half.
- Penn State Behrend kept the third quarter close, recording four goals, while Gannon was limited to only three.
- The Golden Knighs erupted in the fourth quarter with seven tallies, starting with back-to-back goals at the start of the quarter from Gilberto Millan (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico / Colegio San Jose) and went on for the 17-12 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:- Gannon picked up where they left off taking a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Monmouth responded tying the game up.
- The Fighting Scots recorded the final two goals of the quarter leading 5-4 over Gannon.
- The Golden Knights responded tallying two goals and taking the lead back in the second quarter.
- Gannon tallied three consecutive points in the second quarter taking a 10-7 lead and would go into the half leading 10-8 as the Fighting Scots scored with seven seconds remaining.
- The Golden Knights tallied four consecutive points to start the third quarter to lead, 14-9, before Monmouth tallied a goal in the quarter.
- Gannon closed the fourth quarter with five goals and the 24-13 victory.

UP NEXTGannon returns to the pool on Saturday, October 17, when they travel to Salem, West Virginia for the CWPA Division II Championship. They will face host Salem International first at 11 a.m. and will have a rematch with rival Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
