The Short Story: The Gannon women's basketball team returned to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with a 76-70 win over rival Edinboro Saturday evening at the Hammermill Center. With win streaks on the line for both teams, only one remained. The Lady Knights snapped the Fighting Scots' eight-game win streak, while the home squad's unbeaten stretch at the Hammermill Center was extended to eight contests dating back to last season. Senior Nettie Blake (Jersey City, N.J./Marist) led the Lady Knights with career-highs of 28 points and 18 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season and 24th of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- To open the game, the Lady Knights took a 9-2 lead in the opening three minutes off a 9-0 run. Junior Amanda Berchtold (Erie, Pa./ Mercyhurst Prep) began the Lady Knights' scoring attack by burying a long-range three to answer the Fighting Scots' basket in the first 16 seconds of the game. - Three points at foul line would be the last points for the visitors in the closing two minutes of the opening stanza. A layup by Blake followed by four points by junior Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) closed the first-half scoring, leading to a Lady Knights' 37-24 lead at the break.
- To begin the second half, the Lady Knights wasted no time by scoring eight of the first nine points to take a 20-point lead, 45-28. Berchtold opened GU's scoring once again. The Fighting Scots missed on four straight attempts from the field in the opening four minutes until a three by Laurel Lindsay, who scored her 1,000th career point this evening, started a 7-0 Boro run.
- Following a layup by Blake, Lady Knights held a 62-53 lead with 5:27 remaining in regulation. The Fighting Scots put together six straight to pull to within three, 62-59, with 4:14 left.
- With 2:31 remaining in regulation, a successful visit to the foul line by Blake put the Lady Knights ahead 67-60. The Fighting Scots moved to within four, 67-63, before Batts crushed the Fighting Scots' comeback attempt with a three at the top of the circle.
