Tournament: Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference(PSAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Crossover
Location: Hammermill Center – Erie, Pa.
The Short Story: The Gannon women's volleyball team hosted the opening day of the PSAC/MEC Crossover Friday at the Hammermill Center. Representing the PSAC, the Lady Knights and Edinboro each earned a pair of sweeps against MEC opponents West Virginia State and Charleston (W.Va.). The Lady Knights defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets by set scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-16 before battling with the Charleston (W.Va.) Golden Eagles by set scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-12. The wins improved the Lady Knights to 5-0 on the season.

THE BASICS
- Senior Lynne Hibbard (West Barnstable, Mass./Barnstable) and sophomore Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each recorded 11 kills to lead the Lady Knights' offense. Senior Megan Wendel (Aurora, Ohio/Kenston) compiled a match-best 43 assists with seven digs. Kren also joined senior Taryn Graham (Huron, Ohio/Huron) with double-digits in digs recording 14 and 15, respectively.
- The Lady Knights finished the day with a .330 hitting percentage including a .500 percentage to open the day. West Virginia State ended with a .128 attack percentage.
- Hibbard led the team with a .556 attack percentage to share a lead in kills with Kren. Senior Maggie Desrosiers (Uniontown, Ohio/Hoover) and senior Emily Carver (Stow, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) each posted a .429 hitting percentage.
- West Virginia State held a 6.0-3.0 block advantage over the Lady Knights.
- The third set featured five tied scores and four lead changes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Knights opened the match with a .500 hitting percentage in the first set. With the scored tied at 10-10, the Lady Knights capitalized on a 5-1 burst to take control of the match including a pair of kills by Desrosiers. With Wendel at the service line and a 21-16 Lady Knights' lead, the senior closed out the win, as Kren collected two kills and Hibbard sealed the win on a solo effort.
- Three straight service aces by Desrosiers late in the match sealed the Lady Knights' 25-16 second-set victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
- Trailing behind the Yellow Jackets by as much as three points, 7-4, the Lady Knights ignited a 5-1 run to wrestle the lead away. Holding a one-point lead, 10-9, Wendel took advantage of four WVSU errors including a service ace for a 14-10 Lady Knights' edge. Sophomore Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) fired off four straight kills late in the set to give the Lady Knights a 23-12 lead. Fellow sophomore Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) punched in the 25-16 win for a sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

THE BASICS
- In a team effort, five Lady Knights recorded six or more kills against Charleston (W.Va.). Beck led the Lady Knights with nine kills followed by Thiery and Kren with eight each. Carver and junior Kayla Knickerbocker (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) each tallied six.
- Wendel steered the Lady Knights' offense with 35 assists to bring her total for the day to 78.
- Thiery found holes in the Charleston (W.Va.) defense, dropping four aces in place. Junior Morgan Walters (Girard, Ohio/Girard) added two to the total.
- Graham collected a match-best 21 digs including a service ace. The senior was honored prior to the match after becoming the program's all-time digs leader the week before at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament.
- The Lady Knights finished with a .246 hitting percentage compared to the Golden Eagles' .153.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Opening on a 3-1 run in the first set, the Lady Knights continued to build on their lead over the Golden Eagles, as Walters converted two service aces. Holding a two-point lead, 9-7, the Lady Knights managed to push it to 16-7, eventually forcing the Golden Eagles into a timeout to regroup. Thiery finished the set at the service line picking up two aces with Beck drilled the game-point for a 25-13 win.
- After the opening set featured zero tied scores or lead changes, the second set definitely made up the difference.  The second set included 15 tied scores and seven lead changes even until late in the set. Neither team was able to push its lead beyond two points, as the Lady Knights held on for a 25-23 lead down to the wire. The Golden Eagles completed the set with a .278 hitting percentage, while the Lady Knights recorded a .196.
- In the third set, the two teams flopped hitting percentages. The Lady Knights efficiently attacked the Golden Eagles, posting a .387 attack percentage compared to UC's .061 hitting number. Holding an 8-5 lead, the Lady Knights extended their lead to 24-10. In the midst of the 16-5 run, Beck had an extended stay at the service line converting seven serves into points three kills by Knickerbocker.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Gannon concludes its time as host of the PSAC/MEC Crossover Saturday. The Lady Knights return to action in the second match of the against Notre Dame (Ohio) at noon before facing West Liberty to close out the Crossover at 4 p.m.
