THE BASICS

The Short Story: The Gannon women's basketball team captured a 72-49 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent East Stroudsburg Tuesday evening at the Hammermill Center in crossover action. The Lady Knights used a 17-2 run that bridged between the first and second halves to secure the commanding win over the Warriors. The Lady Knights improved to 5-3 on the season and 4-1 in league play, while the Warriors were handed their fourth consecutive loss. Seniors Nettie Blake (Jersey City, N.J./Marist) and Mollie Sebald (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) each scored 15 points to lead the Lady Knights.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Through the opening 15 minutes of action, Gannon and East Stroudsburg found themselves tied six times. The Warriors held the advantage for most of the time, taking an 8-7 lead with 16:34 left. For the next 8:53, the Warriors managed to hold the lead despite the Lady Knights attempts to erase the deficit. Trailing 20-14, the Lady Knights scored six unanswered points to tie the game at 20 capped by a layup from Blake.
- The teams exchanged possessions resulting in three tied scores at 22, 24 and 26 all.
- Off a down-low feed from senior Brittany Batts (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) to Blake, the Lady Knights captured a 28-26 lead with 4:26 remaining in the opening half. Blake's layup put the Lady Knights ahead for the rest of the contest and opened a 12-2 run to close the half with a 38-28 advantage over the Warriors. Six of the final 12 Lady Knight points came at the foul line with junior Jennie Thies (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) accounting for four.
- Holding the Warriors scoreless in the opening 3:30 of the second half, the Lady Knights pushed their lead to 45-28.  Blake scored the first five points of the second half, including an and-one just 14 seconds in.
- In the midst of an 11-4 run, the Lady Knights extended their lead to 19 points, 51-32, off a jumper by junior Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) with 13:46 remaining.
- Relying on an 8-1 run, the Warriors were able to shave the Lady Knights' lead to 12, 52-40.
- Following a jumper by ESU, the Lady Knights tallied six uncontested points to take a 21-point lead, 63-42, with 7:11 remaining in regulation. The stretch was capped by a layup from sophomore Brianna Brennan (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) off an offensive board by Batts.
- Five of the nine final points by the Lady Knights came at the charity stripe, as they sealed the 72-49 win over the Warriors.
 
GAME NOTES
- Four Lady Knights scored double figures in the win.
- Sebald and Blake each scored 15 points to lead the Lady Knights' offense. For Sebald, it was the second straight contest she led the team's scoring. She scored 15 points off the bench, shooting 6-for-8 from the foul line. The senior also added a career-high five steals and tied a season-high three assists in 24 minutes.
- Blake also netted 15 points along with six rebounds. The senior went 7-for-11 from the field. She also recorded a season-high three steals.
- In her first career-start, senior Candice Hendricks (Randallstown, Md./McDonogh)  tallied season-bests in points (11) and minutes (25). Hendricks also registered four rebounds. She went 3-for-5 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.
- Thies also finished with double figures, scoring 10 points. She connected on each attempt, shooting 1-for-1 from the field and 8-for-8 at the charity stripe.
- The Lady Knights shot 46.2-percent (24-52) from the floor after opening at a clip of 51.9-percent (14-27). At the foul line, the team connected on 88-percent (22-25) of their attempts. East Stroudsburg finished the evening at 31.3-percent (15-48) from the field.
- The Warriors were led by Ryann Fiascki with 18 points.
- The Lady Knights' defense only allowed the Warriors to capitalize on five shots in the second half, forcing 24 total turnovers. Among ESU's 24 giveaways, the Lady Knights forced 15 steals including five from Sebald.
- On the glass, the Lady Knights edged the Warriors, 34-31.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Gannon improved to 8-2 against East Stroudsburg, winning each of the last six games between the squads. In the past six games, the Lady Knights have outscored the Warriors on average by a margin of 24.2 points per game. At home, the GU improved to 3-1 against ESU.
- As PSAC cross-divisional opponent, the Lady Knights remain undefeated at 6-0 against the Warriors.
- Appearing in their 35th PSAC-crossover matchup since joining the league in 2008-09, the Lady Knights improved to 33-2. GU improved to 17-1 against Eastern Division opponents at the Hammermill Center.
- The Lady Knights have won 43 of their last 46 games at the Hammermill Center.
- The Maroon and Gold improved to 5-0 when leading the lead at the half this season.
- Sebald appeared in her 100th-career game as a Lady Knight.
- Hendricks started in her first game for the Lady Knights this evening.
- The Warriors entered the game as the conference's fourth-best defense surrendering 60.7 points per game. Averaging a league-best five blocks per game, the Warriors were held to just one.

Gannon remains in conference-crossover action when the team returns to the Hammermill Center Wednesday, Dec. 17, against unbeaten West Chester. The conference doubleheader is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
