HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon scored during its first two possessions to assume a 4-0 lead after senior Raphell Thomas-Edwards (Leicester, England/The Gateway School) converted a lay-up 21 seconds into the contest and senior Girbran Smith (Nassau, Bahamas/Seton (Ill.) Academy) hit two free throws 38 seconds later.
  • Head coach John T. Reilly's club later ripped off six straight points to assume a 15-8 lead with 13:43 left in the first half. Consecutive lay-ups by Thomas-Edwards, Smith and senior A'Darius Porter (Stockbridge, Ga./Woodland) accounted for the mini-run.
  • Gannon held its biggest lead of the night at eight points on two different occasions. The final time followed a free throw by senior Rich Austin (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) that pushed the advantage to 24-16 with 6:56 showing on the clock.
  • With two Gannon starters on the bench with two fouls each, Alderson Broaddus then began to cut into the deficit. The Battlers grabbed the lead with a 12-1 run. Chavez Harper scored the final seven points of the blitz to give the visitors a 28-25 lead at the 2:37 mark.
  • Alderson Broaddus held Gannon without a field goal for 5:31 while gaining the upper hand. The Battlers received a big momentum boost heading into the halftime locker room after Thylas Perkins hit a three-pointer with time winding down, giving AB a 36-30 lead at the break.
  • The visitors didn't let their foot off the gas pedal in the second half, opening the final stanza with a 14-2 run during the first five minutes and five seconds. Malcolm Tatum's three-pointer gave Alderson Broaddus a commanding 50-32 edge with 14:55 left.
  • A Paul Williamson triple at the 11:24 mark gave the Battlers their biggest lead of the evening at 58-39.
  • Gannon never quit and tried to rally. Trailing 65-47, the Golden Knights scored 10 consecutive points to pull within 65-57. Porter ignited the run with two free throws and a lay-up, before Smith and Thomas-Edwards added two points each.
  • The deficit dwindled as low as six points after a three-pointer by sophomore Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) made the score 72-66 with 21 ticks left.
  • An Alderson Broaddus free throw with 12 seconds left capped the scoring and accounted for the final 73-66 score.
