ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon softball team will play three times at Gannon University Field this week, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader against Mansfield Tuesday. The twinbill is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
The Lady Knights will break from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action to take on Central Division Mansfield. The Mounties enter the contest with a 19-12 overall record that includes a 7-7 mark in divisional play. Mansfield is currently fourth in the central division.
Gannon comes in with a 26-13 overall record following a busy slate of games last week. The Lady Knights dropped a conference doubleheader to California (Pa.) before bouncing back with two wins over Point Park and a split with rival Mercyhurst.
The Lady Knights' nearly doubled their season home run total during last week after exploding for 14 during the six-game stretch. The offensive output was led by
Meghan Cunha (North Kingsville, Ohio / Edgewood), who blasted three during a doubleheader with Point Park.
Ashley Petrone (Uniontown, Ohio / Albert Gallatin),
Samantha Scott (New Baltimore, Mich. / Anchor Bay) and
Jaleesa Sledge (Olean, N.Y. / Olean) all sent two out of the park. Sledge leads the team with six.
Leading Mansfield's offense is Kate Pratt, who is hitting .388 with nine home runs. Stephanie Simmeth is close with a .382 average and two long balls. As a team the Mounties are hitting just under .300 with a slugging percentage of .445.
All four of Mansfield's hurlers have at least four wins, led by Pratt's seven. She holds a 3.02 ERA with 53 strikeouts. Emily Crandell has the best overall ERA with a 2.98 mark.
