Gannon Softball Team Sweeps Cedarville During Florida Action

Ashley Petrone had three singles, a double and four RBIs during Gannon's two wins over Cedarville.
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Gannon women's softball team picked its up its second sweep at the National Training Center Games in Clermont, Fla., earning wins over Cedarville by scores of 7-0 and 10-1. 

In the opener, the Lady Knights used two big scoring innings to earn the 7-0 win. Gannon plated four runs in the third inning and three in the seventh to account for the scoring spurts.

Jaleesa Sledge (Olean, N.Y. / Olean) had the big day at the plate with two singles and a home run. Ashley Petrone (Uniontown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) picked up two RBIs with two singles. Kirstie Cortazzo (Jeannette, Pa. / Jeannette) and Tiffani Danks (Spartansburg, Pa. / Corry Area) also recorded hits in the win.

Megan Dragon (Ashtabula, Ohio / Edgewood) recorded her second win of the season after tossing a complete-game shutout. The junior struck out five without issuing a walk.

In the second game Gannon jumped on the Yellow Jackets early, taking a 5-0 advantage after the first inning. Cedarville added one in the top of the second, but the Lady Knights added two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 10-1 win after five innings. 

Petrone and Katie Killian (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) each had two hits, one double and two RBIs. Sledge, Cortazzo and Heidi Frynkewicz (Ambridge, Pa. / Ambridge Area) all added one hit. Also adding RBIs were Samantha Scott (New Baltimore, Mich. / Anchor Bay), Meghan Cunha (North Kingsville, Ohio / Edgewood), Caitlyn Colucci (Lancaster, N.Y. / Sacred Heart) and Frynkewicz.

Erica Bartholow (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville Area) improved to 4-0 after scattering five hits during five innings of work. She recorded three strikeouts while allowing just one walk. 

The sweep improves Gannon's record to 6-3 at the NTC Games. Cedarville falls to 0-2. The Lady Knights will conclude action at the tournament with a game tomorrow against Wayne State (Neb.) at 9 a.m.
