Matches between Clarion and Gannon have not been short on excitement this season, as both regular season match-ups went five sets. Dating back to last season, Gannon and Clarion have played four straight matches to five sets.
Gannon (13-6, 20-8) finished fourth in the PSAC Western Division. It is the first time Gannon has qualified for back-to-back conference tournaments since the 2002 and 2003 seasons when they were a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Gannon's 20 wins this season represent consecutive seasons of at least 20 wins for the first time since the 1994 and 1995 seasons.
Clarion (17-2, 26-4) finished as the top seed in the PSAC Western Division. The Lady Eagles led the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.116) before Gannon put up an impressive .322 attack percentage in the win last week.
Gannon is also looking to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. In the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings, released on November 3, the Lady Knights were fifth, while Clarion was the top team.
In the other West quarterfinal, No. 3 seed California (Pa.) will travel to No. 2 seed Edinboro. In east action, No. 1 seed Lock Haven will take on No. 4 West Chester while No. 2 Kutztown will face No. 3 Shippensburg.
