Gannon Volleyball Team Hosts California (Pa.) in Dig Pink Fundraiser

The Gannon women's volleyball team will host a Dig Pink fundraiser event when they play California (Pa.) on Friday, October 29.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's volleyball team will host the second of five home games to close out the 2010 regular season when California (Pa.) makes the trip to Erie for a match on Friday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m.

The game will serve as the team's annual “Dig Pink” fundraiser. All proceeds from the Dig Pink event will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which strives to increase awareness of breast cancer, education and patient services. In addition to accepting donations, gift baskets will be auctioned off during the match. 

The match is the first of three in which the Lady Knights will host a regionally ranked opponent. The Vulcans are currently third in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings, while Gannon is fifth. 

Gannon is 17-7 this season and holds a 10-5 record in PSAC matches. The Lady Knights have yet to drop a match at the Hammermill Center this season, posting a perfect 7-0 record. 

Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville) is the PSAC leader in aces per set (0.69) and second in the conference in kills per set (3.62). Kara Cullen (Marstons Mills, Mass. / Barnstable) is currently leading the PSAC in hitting percentage (.336). 

California (Pa.) holds an overall record of 18-10 this season and is 13-3 in conference play. The Vulcans had won nine straight matches before dropping three of their last four. Chelsea Wilson, Meghan Franz and Kelly Fromknecht all rank in the top six in the PSAC in hitting percentage. 

The Vulcans defeated Gannon in the first match this season by a 3-1 score, however Gannon holds an all-time record of 12-9 against California (Pa.).
