CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Gannon women's volleyball team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday afternoon at the hand of California (Pa.). The Vulcans won in four sets by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 19-25 and 23-25 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.
“Despite the loss, I'm pleased with the team's effort today,” said head coach
Matt Darling. “We played hard and made it close at the end, but unfortunately California was the better team today.”
Gannon ran most of the offense through
Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville) and
Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio / New Knoxville), who combined had 27 kills. Coming off a 23-kill performance the night before, Sazama earned her third straight double-double tallying 12 kills and 20 digs. Reineke led the team in kills with 15 and added one solo block.
Sarah Glancy (Walled Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) had an efficient day for the Lady Knights hitting .462 after racking up six kills without an error.
Gannon hit .173 in the match and recorded nine total blocks.
Gannon returns to the Hammermill Center this weekend when they host four PSAC East-West Crossover matches. Friday October 8 Gannon will host Shippensburg at noon and Millersville at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 9 Gannon will take on East Strousburg at 12:30 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against Lock Haven at 5:30 p.m.
