Lady Knight Volleyball Hosts Gannon Invitational at Hammermill Center this Weekend

Sophomore Courtney Cook has stepped into the Lady Knight starting lineup in 2009.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon volleyball team will host three teams September 4-5 in the Gannon Invitational at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights face Tiffin Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, they take on Wisconsin-Parkside at 10 a.m. and Adelphi in a noon match.

GU is off to a 3-0 start for the second consecutive season. The Knights swept three contests at the UMass.-Lowell Tournament August 28-29, beating Lowell, Franklin Pierce and Merrimack in the event. Freshman Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) recorded three double-doubles in the tournament. 

Last season, GU began its campaign by winning all three matches at the Gannon Invitational, defeating Lake Erie, Pitt-Johnstown, and Daemen. The Knights went 13-14 in 2008. 

Tiffin went 14-19 in its first season as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Brooke Bernabei returns after leading the team with 308 kills in 2008. They are 1-3 this season.
Wisconsin-Parkside is 3-1 in 2009. The Rangers went 10-22 last year out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Junior Andrea Gust led the team with 712 assists in 2008. 

Adelphi, a member of the Northeast 10, is 1-3 this season. The Panthers went 27-11 last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. Setter Heather Mau had 1,392 assists in 2008.
