CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road contest proved to be Gannon's first setback of the young 2009 campaign. Preseason PSAC Western Division favorite California (Pa.) shrugged off a first-game loss and defeated Gannon 3-1 in volleyball action Friday evening. The Vulcans posted the victory by scores of 25-27, 25-12, 25-13, and 25-12.
Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) was the only Lady Knight to reach double digits in kills. The freshman recorded a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs.
Jess Saunders (Hinckley, Ohio/Highland) led the defensive unit with 13 digs.
Maire Prybyl (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) dished out 30 assists in the loss.
Gannon dropped to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC with its first conference loss. California (Pa.) improved to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, September 26 at Indiana (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
