Gannon Volleyball Soars Past Clarion in Five-Set Nail-Biter Saturday Afternoon

Morgan Reineke led Gannon with 17 kills and 21 digs in Saturday's five-set win at Clarion.
CLARION, Pa. - The Gannon volleyball team won at Clarion in five sets Saturday afternoon. To close out the regular season, the Lady Knights won by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 30-28, 24-26, and 15-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West match. 

The contest was tense from start to finish, with neither team able to get an easy win as the middle three frames went to extra time. Four Knights recorded double doubles in the match. Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) posted 17 kills and 21 digs and Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) had 19 kills and 16 digs. Maire Prybyl (Mars, Pa./North Catholic) dished out 55 assists and collected 11 digs, while Lindsey Deitmen (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) added 11 kills and 15 digs. Shelly Hill (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) had 27 digs for GU. 

Gannon ends the regular season at 22-8 overall and 13-7 in the conference. Clarion dropped to 25-8 overall and 15-4 in the PSAC. The Knights' 22 wins is the most for a Gannon team since 1994, when GU went 25-7. Gannon travels to Western Division champion California (Pa.) for a PSAC quarterfinal contest Tuesday, November 10. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start. Clarion hosts Edinboro Tuesday in the other West quarterfinal.
