Hess played in five games, including an early week contest at Walsh plus the four-game series with IUP. In the final game at IUP, Gannon trailed the Crimson Hawks 4-0 going into the top of the seventh. His three-run HR to left center with two outs provided the winning runs as Gannon rallied with six runs in the inning to win 6-4. The home run was the 28th of his career, breaking the Gannon record for career home runs. He put himself in position to break Nate Cardy's record of 27 after hitting a pair of home runs at Walsh.
On the week, the first baseman was 9-for-15 (.600) with seven runs and 10 RBIs. He had three doubles and three home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.400. He also stole a base and did not strike out. He hit two three-run homers at Walsh, going 3-for-3 with 6 RBIs.Â
In addition to holding the career record for home runs, Hess now has 102 career RBIs, moving into seventh place in career RBIs. The game-winning home run at IUP was his 10th of the season, which is tied for third in a season. He hit 12 home runs in 2019.
With a scorching hot month of April, Hess is now hitting .315 and leads the team in several categories, including home runs (10), RBIs (36), runs (30), base on balls (19), and slugging percentage (.621). In addition, he is second in hits (39) and on-base percentage (.418) and third in doubles (8).
