Steighner helped the Gannon baseball team sweep perennial NCAA Midwest Region power Ashland last Sunday at McConnell Family Stadium in the Golden Knights' only action of the week. The junior infielder hit .800 (4-5) with a 1.400 slugging percentage and .833 on-base percentage during the twinbill sweep. He was also errorless in eight fielding opportunities. Steighner was perfect in three at-bats with runners on base and two appearances with runners in scoring position. He went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs during a 7-4 victory in the opener. Trailing 2-0, Steighner ignited a three-run third inning with an RBI single and later scored the tying run. He gave the Golden Knights a 4-2 lead with his first career home run, a lead-off blast during the bottom of the fifth inning. Steighner followed with a 1-for-2 showing and two RBIs during a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Tied at one during the bottom of the third inning, he drew a bases-loaded walk that forced the go-ahead run across the plate. In the fifth inning, Steighner gave Gannon an insurance run with an RBI single to push the Golden Knights' lead to 5-3. He is hitting .533 with an .800 slugging percentage and .650 on-base percentage through 16 games.
