Mendez took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Gannon baseball team and finished with a one-hit shutout during a 6-0 victory against Clarion last Sunday. The senior right-hander produced the feat on Senior Day in front of his parents. Clarion broke up the no-no with a lead-off single to center field during the top of the seventh inning, but that runner was later stranded at second base before Mendez closed out a 6-0 victory. His one-hitter completed a perfect senior season with a 3-0 record. Mendez's performance included a career-high nine strikeouts through seven innings. He threw his second one-hitter of the season, duplicating his efforts during a 15-2 victory against Wheeling Jesuit February 26 at the Russ-Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida. Mendez became the eighth Golden Knight since 2000 to win 10 career games. He moved into ninth place all-time at Gannon since 2000 with 94 career strikeouts, jumping Sean Gority (2002-03). Mendez led Gannon in complete games (3), shutouts (1), innings pitched (55.2) and strikeouts (52) in 10 starts this season.
