Smith was named Most Valuable Player of the Tony Banner Women's Volleyball Invitational hosted last weekend by Clarion University. The redshirt junior rightside hitter averaged 2.41 kills, 1.06 digs and 1.06 blocks in 17 sets as the Lady Knights posted a perfect 4-0 record. She hit .283 with 44 kills and only 13 errors in 99 attempts. Smith began the tournament with eight kills, seven digs and seven blocks during a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Cedarville. The Lady Knights rallied from a 2-0 deficit against the Yellow Jackets to win the season opener. Smith completed the first day with a career-high 13 kills, four digs and one block during a 3-2 win against Lake Erie. She opened day two with nine kills and six blocks during a 3-1 victory against Merrimack. Smith then capped a great weekend with 11 kills, seven digs and four blocks during a sweep of traditional power Hillsdale. The Chargers were listed among others receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Top 25 Poll. Smith had four double-digit kill performances during her first two seasons, before producing double digits twice during the first four matches this season.
