McGuire went 2-0 last week as the Gannon wrestling team split a pair of dual meets, defeating ninth-ranked Lake Erie 36-14 and falling late to Shipensburg 20-16. The redshirt freshman led Lake Erie’s Josh Davis 8-2 at 149 pounds after one period with two takedowns and a four-point nearfall. He extended the lead to 14-4 after two periods, before recording his third pin in the last four bouts with 42 seconds remaining. McGuire gave Gannon a 15-5 lead at the time. The Waterford, Pa., native ended the week by defeating Shippensburg Mike Springer who was ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II Super Region One. Trailing 2-0, he recorded a takedown to tie the bout in the third period and then added a decisive riding-time point after riding Springer out the entire second period. McGuire stopped an opening 9-0 run by Shippensburg with the victory. Winning for the fifth time in his last six matches, he improved to 13-6 overall and 5-1 in dual competition this season.
