Brueckner led the Gannon women's soccer team to a 4-2 victory against rival Mercyhurst last week with a four-point performance at Gannon University Field. Recording a match-high six shots, Brueckner collected a pair of assists and scored the final goal to snap the Lady Knights’ three-match skid. The junior was able to get the Lady Knights’ offense rolling, setting up the first two of three unanswered goals. Trailing Mercyhurst by one early in the first half, Brueckner assisted Hannah Manzcka’s first career goal in the 20th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Brueckner sent a cross from the right side into the top of the goal area with Manczka tapping the ball into the net to tie the game. Brueckner’s next helper came on a Lady Knights’ counter-attack, as she found senior Justine Rodrigues open along the right sideline. Brueckner sent a long feed up to Rodrigues, who fired the ball in to give the Lady Knights a 2-1 lead during the 27th minute. Brueckner added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute, the only score of the second half for either team. Receiving a pass from Olivia Sharbaugh inside the penalty area, Brueckner pushed towards the Lakers’ net with a defender on her hip. Brueckner pulled back and blasted the ball at the goal, as it bounced into the net off the defender for a 4-2 Lady Knights’ lead. The Valencia, Pa. native is now tied for fourth on the program’s career goals list with 22. The school’s all-time career assists leader notched her 29th and 30th assist during the win.
