Benz posted a 2-1 record with a 0.95 ERA during four appearances for the Gannon softball team at the Salem Invitational last weekend. The sophomore allowed only two earned runs while striking out nine in 14 2/3 innings. Among the sophomore's solid efforts on the mound during the Salem Invitational, she led the Lady Knights to a 5-3 victory against No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan. With the tying run at first and winning run at bat, the Bobcats' hopes went down looking as she fired a pitch past the batter to record the last out. In a complete-game effort, Benz did not allow a Bobcat to reach third base throughout the entire game until the last at-bat. She only surrendered one run among the three scored, striking out four batters to record the win. Benz's first win at the Salem Invitational came during a five-inning effort, as the Lady Knights defeated Bowie State, 14-0. She struck out four batters in five innings to record the shutout win. Benz picked up her first save of the season during the Lady Knights' 5-4 victory against Winston-Salem State. In one inningsof relief work, she allowed one hit and fanned one batter.
