Bates led the Gannon softball team to a 2-2 record at last week’s PSAC Tournament. The true freshman hit .556 with an .889 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage in four games. She recorded five hits in nine at-bats. Her biggest hit was a two-out, three-run homer in the sixth inning against Lock Haven that extended a 4-3 Gannon lead to 7-3. The Lady Knights went on to win that game by the same score of 7-3. Bates hit .750 (3-4) with runners on base, .667 (2-3) with runners in scoring position and .500 (2-4) with two outs during the tournament. The Greensburg, Pa., native finished her freshman season with a 13-game hitting streak. Bates hit .364 this season with a .576 slugging percentage and a .447 on-base percentage. Defensively, she committed only four errors in 146 fielding opportunities. Bates had eight multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games in 2013.
