Matt Turek and Zack Zelcs are Gannon’s Co-Male Student-Athletes of the Week. Both wrestlers earned all-america honors at the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships with eighth-place finishes in their respective weight classes, helping Gannon finish 29th in the team standings. It represented Gannon's 15th consecutive top-29 national finish. In addition, the program produced multiple All-Americans for the fourth time during the last five years. Turek had to battle three nationally-ranked wrestlers during the first day, but came out on top during two of those three bouts. The Madison, Ohio, native opened the day with a 10-8 victory against seventh-ranked Ben Sergent of Findlay during the first round. Turek then dropped a 10-0 major decision to fifth-ranked Gerald Huff of Adams State, before earning his first career all-america status with a 20-5 technical fall against third-ranked Eric Ford of St. Cloud State. Zelcs came out of the gate on fire at 184 with a convincing 8-3 victory against fourth-ranked Aaron Norgren of Minnesota State-Mankato during the first round. The redshirt sophomore was pinned by third-ranked Dallas Smith of Ouachita Baptist, but rebounded nicely with a 3-2 decision against Charles Mason of Notre Dame (Ohio) to earn all-america honors for the first time.
