Turek and Zack Zelcs led the Gannon wrestling team to a seventh-place finish out of 14 teams at last weekend's NCAA Division II Super Regional One hosted by Kutztown University. Turek qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time with a third-place regional finish at 125. The redshirt sophomore won four of five matches. The run included a pin, a technical fall and a major decision. Turek moved into the 125-pound semifinals with a technical fall and a 14-4 major decision against sixth seed Dereck Enders of Shippensburg. After a tight 7-6 loss in the semifinals, Turek rebounded with a pin of eighth seed Anthony Marino of East Stroudsburg in the wrestlebacks. He then captured third place with a 12-10 victory against the top seed Jeffrey Vesta of Newberry. Turek enters the national championships with a 27-7 overall record with a eight major decisions, four pins and three technical falls.
