Tomko led the Gannon baseball team to a four-game split against Slippery Rock last weekend with a .533 batting average and .588 on-base percentage. The junior outfielder had an amazing 1.200 slugging percentage with five extra-base hits in 15 at-bats. He went 5-for-10 with runners on base, 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position and 5-for-5 with two outs. With Gannon trailing 2-1 and two outs in the fifth inning of game one last Saturday, Tomko ripped a two-run double down the left field line to give Gannon a 3-2 lead. He then stole third and scored when the throw sailed wide of third base for a 4-2 advantage. The Sharon, Pa., native recorded three-hit performances during the second game of both weekend doubleheaders. Tomko went 3-for-4 with a home run during Saturday’s second game. He finished 3-for-5 with three runs and six RBIs during Sunday’s second game. Tomko became the first Golden Knight to drive in six runs during the same game since March 3, 2006. His three-run homer Sunday was his fourth round tripper of the season, matching his 2011 total in only 20 games. Meanwhile, Tomko moved into fifth place all-time at Gannon with 10 career home runs. He raised his average 62 points to .333 after last weekend’s series against Slippery Rock.
