Papich helped the Gannon women’s basketball team split two games at last weekend’s NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. The sophomore forward averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals during the national tournament. She shot 51.6 percent (16-31) from the field during the two games. Papich opened the regional with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals during a 61-50 victory against third-seeded Johnson C. Smith. The Lady Knights were the tournament’s sixth seed. During a 64-59 loss against second-seeded Shaw in the regional semifinals, Papich tallied 18 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-16 shooting. Her lay-up with 3:03 remaining ignited an 8-0 run that brought Gannon within 60-59 with 54 seconds left. Papich finished the 2011-12 campaign as Gannon’s leader in scoring (14.7), field goals (161), free throws (96), blocked shots (28) and steals (77).
