Blazek averaged 31.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals during two road games last week, leading the Gannon men’s basketball team to a pair of critical victories with its postseason hopes on the line. The freshman guard committed only five turnovers in 79 minutes of action. He began the week with a career-high 26 points and seven rebounds at Edinboro, going perfect from three-point range (4-4) and the free throw line (6-6). Blazek scored 16 of his 20 points in regulation during the second half as Gannon rallied from a 16-point deficit to force overtime. The Erie, Pa., native hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 59-56 with 2:51 left in regulation, before later hitting a game-tying jumper with 21 seconds left. Blazek then secured a trip to overtime by stealing a pass as Edinboro tried to get off a shot in the waning seconds. Blazek added six points during the overtime session from the free throw line, snapping a 71-all tie by hitting two free throws with 49 seconds left. With Gannon leading by two on two different occasions, he went 2-of-2 from the line with 23 seconds left and 12 seconds left to ice the victory. Blazek concluded the week by setting a new career-high with 37 points at Clarion. He added six rebounds, four assists and three steals against the Golden Eagles. Blazek went 13-of-18 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line against Clarion. His 37 points were the 11th-highest single-game total in school history. Blazek became the first Gannon player since December 29, 2005 to score at least 37 points in a game. The point guard helped Gannon build a 42-39 halftime lead by scoring 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the first half. Blazek scored 10 points during a 14-0 run that initially gave Gannon a 24-12 lead, before adding 19 points during the final 20 minutes as Gannon overcame a six-point deficit midway through the second half. Blazek helped ice the victory with a 6-of-6 showing at the free throw line during the final minute and 25 seconds.
