Tomko hit .424 with a .741 slugging percentage and .531 on-base percentage during eight games last week at the Russ-Matt Baseball Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida. The sophomore outfielder hit .524 (11-21) with runners on base and .600 (9-15) with runners in scoring position. He also drove in a run all four times he batted with a runner on third base and less than two outs. Tomko concluded Gannon’s Spring Break trip by going 5-for-9 with three runs, seven RBI and three triples during a pair of games against Lewis (Ill.) and West Virginia Wesleyan. Against Lewis, Tomko tied the game at two with a two-run triple over the centerfielder’s head in the bottom of the seventh inning. He then scored on a single to give the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead. One inning later, Tomko snapped a 3-3 tie with a bases-loaded triple into the right-center gap. He again scored on a single, accounting for the final 7-3 score. The Sharon, Pa., native went 3-or-4 in the nightcap against West Virginia Wesleyan, including another triple into the right-center gap that plated a run in the eighth and an RBI single in the sixth. Tomko’s week included a 4-for-4 showing during a 16-9 victory against the University of Mary. He scored four runs, drove in four runs, had two doubles and walked twice against the Marauders. Overall, Tomko has recorded a hit in eight of 12 games this season.
