Curtis was Gannon's top performer at the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships. The freshman won three individual titles and was the lone Gannon male swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships March 9-12 in San Antonio, Texas. His best performance came while winning the 400-yard IM as he recorded an NCAA A-cut time of 3:58.01, finishing more than eight seconds quicker than the next PSAC swimmer. Curtis kicked off the championships with a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle event during the first night, posting a winning time of 9:26.52 that met NCAA B-cut standards. He finished the weekend by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle during the final day, easily beating the next PSAC swimmer by more than 26 seconds. His time of 15:56.07 again met NCAA B-cut standards. Curtis also helped the 800-yard freestyle relay team finish second with a time of 6:56.56.
