Petrella led a group of five All-Americans as the Gannon wrestling team finished eighth at the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships. It marked the program's second-highest finish ever, falling one spot shy of the program's all-time best. The junior posted the top individual finish on the team, taking fourth in the 174-pound bracket. On the final day, he won a 10-6 decision and then pinned Shippensburg’s Chris Barrick to advance to the third-place bout. Petrella then lost a 7-2 decision to Mitch Norton of Upper Iowa. He finished the season 16-8 overall with three pins.
