THE GANNON-WEST CHESTER SERIES
Tied at 6-6-1
In a series that first began in 2008, West Chester took the lead in the series with a 2-1 win over the Golden Knights in the semifinals of last year's PSAC Tournament. It marked the second time the two teams met in the PSAC Tournament Gannon won 2-1 in overtime in 2019. But Gannon captured a 2-0 win at WCU on October 12 to knot the series once again.

Last Meeting: Oct. 12, 2024 – Gannon 2, West Chester 0 | RECAP
Gannon traveled to southeastern Pennsylvania and came away with big road win. Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000) opened the scoring on a corner kick for a 1-0 lead 17:40 into the match. Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) and Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) were credited with assists. Gannon's lead grew to 2-0 in the 31st minute courtesy of Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil). Hyde scored off a feed from James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham).

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's soccer team will have a second chance to do something it was unable to do a year ago – beat West Chester in the PSAC semifinals. The two teams will square off at Bloomsburg's Steph Pettit Stadium on Friday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. with a berth in Sunday's PSAC Championship game on the line.

A year ago Gannon came in as the number one seed out of the Western Division and was hosting the Final Four. But West Chester upset the Golden Knights to deny Gannon an opportunity to win its first PSAC championship. The Golden Knights have reached the PSAC title game in 2017, 2019 and 2021 but have yet to wear the crown. They are in the semifinals for the fifth straight year.

Gannon has enjoyed another outstanding campaign, once again winning the PSAC West regular season title while posting a 13-2-3 record. The Golden Knights feature an explosive attack with 64 goals while a stingy defense has allowed just 14 goals. The Golden Knights are ranked 18th in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 and fourth in the latest NCAA Super Region 1 rankings.

West Chester entered the PSAC Tournament as the number three seed but on Monday upset number two seed Millersville. The two teams actually tied at 1-1 but WCU advanced on penalty kicks 5-4. Gannon and West Chester met on October 12 at West Chester, with Gannon coming away with a 2-0 victory.

On Wednesday the PSAC announced its 2024 All-PSAC Teams. Head coach Billy Colton was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year for the second straight year and third time overall. In addition, Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) was selected the Offensive Athlete of the Year and Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) repeated as the Defensive Athlete of the Year.

Orten and Ferrer were joined as first team All-PSAC West honorees by Herman Aanberg (Hamar, Norway/Wang Toppidrett Oslo), Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000), Andre Moraes (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil/Colegio Singular), James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham), and Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina).

Gannon has reached the PSAC semifinals for the fourth straight year and has been to the PSAC Championship game three times. But the Golden Knights have never won the PSAC championship. He's hoping that by Sunday about 3 p.m. that will have changed.
