No. 8 Gannon Tops Slippery Rock for Eighth Sweep of the Season

  • Short Story: No. 8 Gannon notched its eighth sweep of the season after grinding out a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock on Wednesday evening at Hammermill Center. Kristin Schorr (Evansville, Ind./North Posey) paced the Knights with a team-high seven kills to go along with four digs.
GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon quickly doubled up Slippery Rock, 10-5, following three straight kills from Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). Gannon kept its foot on the gas from there stretching its advantage into double digits, 16-6, after Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) sent a kill past The Rock defense. The Knights took set one, 25-12.
  • Slippery Rock battled back in the second frame opening up a 12-3 advantage. Gannon then came alive storming back to steal the lead, 16-15, after six unanswered points. Gannon went on to take the second stanza, 25-22.
  • Both teams traded points in the third frame until Gannon was able to build 12-9 edge. Following a Slippery Rock point, the Knights constructed a 6-0 run to push their lead to 18-10 after back-to-back service aces from Maddie Blake. Gannon wouldn't look back and went on to win the frame, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.  
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon tallied its fourth straight sweep and eighth overall of the season.
  • As a team, Gannon posted 50 digs, 36 kills and 33 assists.
  • 10 different players logged at least one kill for the Knights
  • Schorr paced Gannon on the offensive end with a team-high seven kills to go along with four digs.
  • Bebinger also added in six kills with two digs.
  • Kaeli Kristensen (Calgary, Alberta/Dr. E.P. Scarlett) handed out a match-high 16 assists.
  • Valeria Torres (Gurabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) also reached double digits in assists with 13.
  • Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) notched a team-best 10 digs.
