ERIE, Pa. — The Gannon softball team will kick off its 2021 schedule this weekend, and is looking ahead to a full slate of PSAC games and nonconference opponents.
The Golden Knights, who were picked to top the PSAC West in the preseason coaches poll, head to Fairmont State for a doubleheader Saturday, before opening conference play the following weekend.
2021 SOFTBALL SCHEDULE
Gannon will take on a retooled division in 2021, as the PSAC will now have two divisions for softball. Conference weekends will see a doubleheader played at one site, followed the next day by the same two teams meeting at the other team's home field. Each team is scheduled for 32 conference games.
The Knights will also take on a number of nonconference foes, including road trips to Lake Erie, D'Youville, Malone and a nonconference doubleheader at Clarion.
Postseason action gets underway in May with the PSAC tournament. The NCAA tournament saw some adjustments for this year only, with each region starting with six teams in one regional tournament before heading to the final site with the eight regional champions.
Currently, no spectators are allowed in attendance at sporting events hosted on the Gannon campus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Access to the facility is limited to participating teams and those workers whose duties are essential to the contest.
