The Short Story: Gannon Women's Water Polo finished sixth at the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championships after falling to Mercyhurst, 10-5, on Saturday (April 29).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercyhurst scored the first goal of the game before Gannon's Alison Cooney (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) countered with the equalizer at the 4:04 mark of the first quarter.
The Lakers edged out to a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Cooney scored her second goal to begin the second quarter with a laser to the back of the net. Cooney drew the Lady Knights back to within 3-2.
Liz Barr (Honolulu, Hawaii/'Iolani School) knotted the game back up at three with her first goal of the day at the 5:28 mark of the period.
Mercyhurst scored three-consecutive goals in the final four and a half minutes of the half to go up 6-3 at halftime.
Cooney came out in the third quarter to cut the Lady Knights' deficit to 6-4 with a goal at the 6:05 mark.
Gannon's fifth goal came from Barr before the third period closed, the Lady Knights trailing 9-5 at the close of the quarter.
Merychurst scored the only goal of the fourth quarter and took a 10-5 decision.

Cooney sits seventh on Gannon's all-time scoring list with 140 goals. Katelyn Jacobs (2011-14) is sixth with 168 lifetime goals.
Barr had her 12^th multiple-goal match of the season. She has 34 goals this season, marking back-to-back seasons of 30+ goals.
Barr has 80 goals in her career, tied for 18^th on Gannon's all-time scoring list with Kendra Plackemeier.
