HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon had the first great scoring opportunity in the 15th minute when senior Mani Brueckner (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) ripped a shot from 35 yards out on the right side off the left post.
  • The play of the match happened less than three minutes later. Senior Becca Albert (Fairview, Pa./General McLane) was given a red card after being called for a foul with Edinboro pressuring in the 18th minute, causing the Lady Knights to play shorthanded for the final 72 minutes and 33 seconds.
  • Edinboro proceeded to apply the pressure, producing a 9-2 edge in shots the rest of the first half.
  • The Fighting Scots broke through 6:15 after the red card when Alex Brown split a pair of defenders after getting a pass from Jansen Hartmann. She then beat the goalkeeper into the right side for a 1-0 lead.
  • Gannon controlled the second half despite playing down a player, out-shooting Edinboro 17-6 during the final 45 minutes.
  • The Lady Knights took the first four shots of the second half, but Edinboro needed only one shot to double its advantage. Hartmann got off what appeared to be a crossing pass from the right end line, but the pass deflected off the Gannon goalkeeper and into the net for a 2-0 lead at the 60:55 mark.
  • Gannon continued to pressure and finally broke through in the 75th minute. Senior Kaitlyn Kissell (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) began the scoring play with a pass to Brueckner, who continued the ball to senior Ally Sharpe (Holley, N.Y./Brockport) in the middle. Sharp finished the series of passes by cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • With Gannon pushing forward in an attempt to score the tying goal and still down a player, Edinboro managed to get behind the defense in the 81st minute. Alex Brown got past the last defender and beat the goalkeeper into the upper left corner to ice the victory with 9:45 to play.
