Gannon Volleyball Cruises Past Texas A&M University - Kingsville

Junior Lindsey Deitmen had seven kills and five digs in the Lady Knights win.
ELKINS, W.Va. – The Gannon volleyball team earned its second win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M University - Kingsville Saturday afternoon at the Davis & Elkins Tournament. The Lady Knights picked up their second straight sweep by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21. Gannon finishes the tournament with a 2-1 record. 

Gannon turned in another solid performace hitting .337 as a team with 39 kills. Junior Kara Cullen (Marstons Mills, Mass. / Barnstablea) led Gannon in kills with 13 and for the second straight match finished without an attcking error. Also helping the offense was Sophomore Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio / New Knoxville), who finished with 11 kills and led the team in digs with seven. Junior Lindsey Deitmen (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) had a balanced game adding seven kills, five digs, one assist and one solo block for Gannon. 

“This was a good win for us,” said head coach Matt Darling. “Once again, we passed well and were able to run the middle with success.” 

Setting up the Lady Knights offense was junior Alex DelPiombo (Monroe, Mich. / St. Mary's Catholic Central), who dished out 34 assists in the match. 

“Overall, we learned a lot about our team this weekend and we will be able to make some improvements at practice this week," said Darling

The Lady Knights move to 2-1 on the season while the Javelinas now stand at 1-2. Gannon will travel to University of Pitt - Johnstown Wednesday, September 8 for a 6:00 p.m. match.
