CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Gannon men's cross country team finished second out of two teams while the women's squad placed third out of four teams at the California (Pa.) Invitational Saturday morning.
California (Pa.) won the women's team title with 35 points. St. Vincent (Pa.) (47), Gannon (59) and Clarion (85) completed the four-team standings.
St. Vincent's Ivette Mejia captured the women's individual title, completing the 5k race in 19 minutes and 29 seconds.
Rosie Cooper (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) was Gannon's top runner, finishing eighth with a time of 21 minutes and four seconds.

Jenna Szczepanski (18th, 22:00),
Christina Estes (19th, 22:03) and
Kathleen Driving Hawk (24th, 23:09) also competed for the Lady Knights.
California (Pa.) completed the sweep by winning with men's team trophy with 15 points, out-distancing Gannon by 27 points. The first five runners to cross the finish line were Vulcans, led by Aaron Dinzeo's 25:52 time.
Carter Denne (North East, Pa./North East) led the Golden Knights, finishing the 8k race in sixth place with a time of 28 minutes and 24 seconds.

Both Gannon cross country teams return to action Friday, September 17 at the Notre Dame Invitational. The meet is scheduled for 4 p.m. in South Bend, Indiana.
