Gannon Volleyball Drops Season Opener 3-1 Against Findlay

Junior Kara Cullen had eight kills and four blocks for the Lady Knights Friday afternoon.

Elkins, W.Va. – The Gannon volleyball team dropped their season opener to Findlay University Friday afternoon at the Davis and Elkins (W.Va.) Tournament. Findlay earned the win in their first match of the season by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 23-25 and 19-25.

Gannon picked up a closely contested first set, but was unable to hold leads in each of the next two, eventually losing in four sets.

"I'm happy that we have this match under our belt," said head coach Matt Darling. "Although we would have liked to close out Findlay when we had them down in sets two and three, I think we learned from the loss."

The Lady Knights were led by sophomores Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) and Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville), who earned 12 and 11 kills respectively.

Junior Alex DelPiombo (Monroe, Mich. / St. Mary's Catholic Central) added 36 assists. Defensively for Gannon, junior Kara Cullen (Marstons Mills, Mass. / Barnstable) collected four total blocks in addition to her eight kills in the match.

Gannon will face off this evening against Davis & Elkins at 7:00 p.m. before playing Texas A&M University - Kingsville tomorrow at noon.
