ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's
Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) has been named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District II women's at-large third team released Thursday morning.
Nelson has been a four-year starter for the Gannon women's lacrosse program. The senior attacker owns a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average as a management major. She was Gannon's top feeder with 67 assists, 17 goals and 84 points.
The Oswego, N.Y., native led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and ranked second among all NCAA Division II players in both assists (67) and assists per match (3.53). Nelson ranked seventh among PSAC players in points per match (4.42) and 14th nationally in points (84).
Nelson is Gannon's all-time assist leader with 190. She ranks seventh all-time at Gannon in points (234). Her 67 assists this season equaled the second-highest single-season total in school history, narrowly missing the school record by one.
Harriger is a two-sport athlete at Gannon, participating in water polo and swimming. The sophomore holds a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average as a pre-med/biology major. She recorded 46 goals, 25 assists, 28 steals, three earned kickouts and 24 field saves as a water polo player.
An All-Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) second-team selection, Harriger tied for the team lead in assists while being the team's second-leading scorer. Her 46 goals equaled the 11th-highest single-season total in school history.
Harriger's two-year career numbers include 74 goals, 38 assists, 58 steals, 14 earned kickouts and 33 field saves. She ranks 11th all-time at Gannon in goals and 16th in assists.
The 2010
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II women's at-large teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams consist of all sports except football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, track and field, softball and cross country.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
