ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's
Laura Piazza (Brampton, Ontario/Cardinal Leger S.S.) and
Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) have been named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's Soccer All-Atlantic Region teams released Wednesday afternoon.
Piazza was named to the first team for the second consecutive season and earned all-region accolades for the fourth time in her career. Sharbaugh received all-region honorable-mention accolades as a true freshman in 2008, before being named to the second team this season.
A three-time all-conference first-team selection, Piazza was the leader of a defense that ranked sixth among PSAC teams in goals allowed per match (1.26). Her lone goal this season was the game-winner against rival Mercyhurst. She had three goals and seven points during her career.
Sharbaugh finished the 2009 campaign with 10 goals, seven assists, 27 points and two game-winning goals. The sophomore midfielder ranked fifth among PSAC players in assists per match (0.37), sixth in points per match (1.42) and eighth in goals per match (0.53). She posted the third-highest single-season total all-time at Gannon in assists, fourth in points and fifth in goals.
The Sarver, Pa., native is already second all-time at Gannon in goals (25) and points (62) despite playing only 38 career matches. Sharbaugh ranks fifth in school history with 12 career assists. She was named PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Year last season.
Gannon advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in school history, falling to Indiana (Pa.) in a shoot-out during the first round. The Lady Knights finished 10-8-1 overall. For the complete 2009 NSCAA Women's Soccer All-Atlantic Region teams, please
